Not necessarily. A lot of what Costco has, particularly paper products, is bulk (or bulkier than a regular grocery), but not everything is. You can get meats, fruits and vegetable, bakery goods, milk, wine and that kind of stuff in manageable amounts.

Then there's electronics. We got a new TV there -- it ran about $100 less than what I could find anywhere else, and Costco automatically doubles the warranty, so we have a 2-year warranty on it. (90-day no questions asked return policy.) They also do glasses/contacts.

Finally, there's gas. Gas at Costco tends to run about $0.10 a gallon less than the lowest nearby station. We figure we make up lots of the membership fee just in gas.
