My dad did escort me, I was presented to society and the women who were 20 were presented as women because they weren't teenagers. Some girls around here do have several balls at 18 and 20 to represent both changes in life. These weren't open to just anyone nor were we chosen as some are based on community envolvement if that makes sense. I did cotillion in 5th and 6th grade which alot of girls have to complete to be a deb and then during deb we took classes on how to wear high heels and to fix a flat. It was about equal number of girls that were in hs and just graduated.
ps we also had a deb coterie but with guys as our escorts but that wasn't our ball just a party.
