I thought it was saying she was a 5.5 GPA student! I was thinking "..the hell?..."
Honors/AP classes are sometimes given an extra point (or two). My high school was 4.0 scale, honors classes were 5.0 and AP classes were 6.0. I think. Well now I'm not 100% sure, but I graduated over a 4.3 and I was... 5th in my class.
