My older son attended a sorority formal on the very same night that the Pi Phi formal took place and he said although he doesn't remember seeing adult advisors at the formal, the sorority president and social chairman were monitoring every girl and her date as they got on the bus to leave for the formal. Anyone who was obviously intoxicated was not allowed to board the bus. He also said that there were sorority members at the formal who were closely watching what was going on and he knows of at least one girl and her date who were sent home in a taxi at their own expense. I would imagine that most sororites would have a system like this in place (althought clearly Pi Phi did not).

My son's girlfriend who is in a sorority at Miami told me that none of the three chapters on suspension at Miami will be able to participate in recruitment until their suspensions have ended.

And both of my boys have said this is typical behavior from this chapter.

I am in no way defending their actions because what they did was disgusting and makes ALL greeks look bad, BUT let's try and stay away from stereotypes like this. Not every single member of any chapter has the same "typical behavior". True, certain chapters have certain stereotypes but we should at least stand together panhellenically. That sounded really cheesy. Ok, stepping off soapbox now!

FWIW, I know some Miami greeks from high school. I'd be interested to hear how things are up in Oxford because of all of this. I wonder if this will affect the way all chapters' formals are done...

If nothing else, it is one less location that other organizations can consider for formals.

I was thinking the exact same thing. There seems to be a big old pile-on where these girls are concerned. To see a parent (who's old enough to know better) doing it is...I don't even have a word.
