Badge Attire?

Hey all. I was wondering what badge attire means.
I'm going through AXiD recruitment at UofI and they told us that if we get invited to preference night that we should be "dressy". They said "dressy as in a dress", "something you'd wear to a religious service" and that the sisters were told "badge attire".
I've seen preference night during formal recruitment and most girls are wearing cocktail/homecoming dresses, but I wouldn't wear that to church.
Can anyone give me concrete examples of what might be good?

I'd agree with a cocktail dress for preference. It doesn't have to be as conservative as something you'd wear to church, but just make sure it's tasteful (ie if you have big boobs they're not hanging out). Like something you'd wear to a wedding as a guest?

It varies from campus to campus and chapter to chapter. I don't think this is the most helpful discussion for what a PNM should wear to pref night, however.

Maybe it's a campus thing, but "pin/badge attire" and what you'd wear to preference are two very different things at my school. Not that preference attire is inappropriate for wearing your badge, just it'd be a bit over-the-top for formal meeting.

Badge attire is business casual, which, in my mind, includes dress pants/capris, skirts, more professional looking dresses, blazers, sweaters, cardigans, button-downs, etc. No denim, chinos, cords.

Maybe a conservative dress that could go business casual or cocktail would be best for the OP?

I think this sounds like the best bet. The sisters might be wearing suits or something.

I wish the whole "religious service" comparison would be thrown out as you see everything from soup to nuts at church nowadays.

I wouldn't worry about what the sisters will be wearing. If you are collegiate member of the chapter, they will teach you what is appropraite "badge attire". I would concentrate on wearing what was recommended. If they want you in a "dressy dress", I'd wear something that is wedding guest appropriate.

The email I received about this week's events had a pic of seven girls in sundresses. I would choose something in that range, keeping in mind it may be a little cool on Sat night. I wouldn't read too much into the "badge attire" note. Every house has rules about what you shouldn't wear with your badge/pin (no demin, t-shirts etc). I think there is a great debate now everywhere as to where flip-flops and sandals fit in. But usually for a pref ceremony the alums will wear black cocktail dresses. If you want to blend in, wear black. If you want to stand out, wear another color. Maybe I'll see you on Sunday!

I agree with this. Preference is usually dressier than what someone would wear to chapter.

Sounds like you may be doing COB or colonization rather than formal recruitment. If so, then I they probably are bringing it down a notch from the cocktail dress level. But something you'd wear to a wedding or a banquet would be appropriate. As previous poster said, be careful of the cut of the top...the "girls" don't need to be hanging out....
