Maybe it's a campus thing, but "pin/badge attire" and what you'd wear to preference are two very different things at my school. Not that preference attire is inappropriate for wearing your badge, just it'd be a bit over-the-top for formal meeting.

Badge attire is business casual, which, in my mind, includes dress pants/capris, skirts, more professional looking dresses, blazers, sweaters, cardigans, button-downs, etc. No denim, chinos, cords.

Maybe a conservative dress that could go business casual or cocktail would be best for the OP?
