Pinning was pretty rare at my school because the guys never wanted to give up their badges, but lavaliering was popular and I never understood GDIs giving a girl her own letters. What is the significance of that? It's certainly a nice gesture, but the whole point of lavaliering (I thought) was that it showed that the guy loved you enough to share his letters with you and show the world that you are his.
My husband (a GDI) actually did lavalier me. He gave me a heart-shaped pendant... a way of showing me he was sharing his heart with me. My sorority held a candle-lighting for me just as if he had given me a fraternity lavalier.
