See, I don't necessarily agree with that. When you get by the shore and into towns like Stamford and Old Saybrook, then yeah, it fits. But I'm from Bristol, and in the center of the state it's definitely not like that - if we're trying to be like New Yorkers there, we're definitely failing.

I'm with you on that. Bristol is much more a suburb of Hartford than of NYC. (I used to live there.) It depends where in CT you are... if you're in commuting distance of NYC, you could be considered a wannabe New Yorker - other than that, not so much. Connecticut is part of New England first, not just a big suburb of NYC.

How about this one for Alaska:
"Let's cut Alaska in half, and Texas can be the third largest state."
And, you used to actually see this one in Colorado:
"Welcome to Colorado, now go home."

I think California had that one first. That would be a variation of:
California - "Zonies, go home!"
(to those not in the know, "Zonies" is what we call people from Arizona - they like to invade SoCal in the summer. I don't blame them, it's hot in AZ!!)

California might have had it first, but it would have been a long time ago. That was popular in Colorado in the 70's when the environmentalists thought that you could limit growth.
Didn't happen.
