Not my favorite term but it doesn't make me cringe. When I hear "knocked up" I do think accidental, illegitimate child, though.
I prefer pregnant, expecting, or even "with child".
For humor, here are my contexts in which I think of each term:
"OH man. Just found out I'm
knocked up! Don't know WTF I'm gonna do! OH NO!"
"Ah yes, husband and I are
expecting. What a beautiful addition."
