It is hugely annoying to log in and see a news feed filled with who friended who. I don't care. Nor do I care to clutter my friends pages with all the mundane changes I made or groups I joined in facebook.
I know that I used to be able to control that under a section in 'Settings', however, I'm not finding it now...

You can't do that anymore, just like you can't hide things on your own newsfeed (such as liking a status, commenting, etc.) without clicking x on each item. I never complain about the updates because I figure they're going to stick around and I'll get used to them. I was mad when they got rid of some of those privacy controls. The one thing I'm always mad about, though, is the way the newsfeed gets screwed up when they launch a new version. It usually takes a few days, but my newsfeed had the same 6 stories all day at the top. I wish they'd figure out some way to update the system without screwing up facebook for a few days.

Before you go off half-cocked, wait and see if the settings page comes back. It's obvious that this rollout isn't done yet.

I keep getting the gaps in my news feed too. Hopefully once everyone has the design that'll stop.
You have to click on "most recent" next to "top news".

They took it away with the last rollout. I saw an article last week saying they weren't bringing it back, and the only way to get rid of it is to click the x in your own newsfeed, which takes forever. I can't seem to find the article right now, though.

Ok so I can go make the official complaint then. Did the article say why they removed this feature? It seems strange to increase some privacy settings and then remove others in the same rollout. Especially if the ones removed allow for more spam.

I don't recall the exact reason, but the creator said something about if he'd known how Facebook would evolve, he would have made everyone's profiles public from the beginning. I've been a member since 2004, and I miss how private it used to be, without everyone and their mother cultivating farms and sending hearts and crap.

My friend had this posted as her status, I did what it said, and it worked. Everyone's updates appear to be back on my news feed (without an hour gap in between!)

FB is blocking all your friends News Feeds, except the 250 they choose. To undo: click HOME, from there scroll down to bottom of the page choose "edit options" (edit options is on the right, "older posts" on the left). Select News feed settings. Reset 250 to 5,000 FBs max friend limit. Then your feed should work again!

That happened with the last change - it's actually nothing new. Mine is still set at 5000, it wasn't reset back to 250 (I just checked). I don't think that's why the news feed is effed up. You just have to refresh a couple times and you'll see everything.
