Right. I dropped out though the day before pref day because no one asked me back except for the new chapter on campus and to be honest starting a new chapter wasn't really the experience I was looking for. Bid night was last night, and now all the girls are starting everything with their pledge class. From what I understand, snap bids are extended and made to look like regular bids, so no one will know the difference. Now, however, there is a chance of a lot of girls dropping out, so I was wondering how COB worked and whether snap bidding at Tulane was like at other schools, because as far as I know, bid night is a little different here.

i have been an advisor for a colony and am still with the chapter today. in that time another sorority has come on campus and i believe that the campus will welcome another sorority later this year, so while i am no expert, i have seen how this works. it is more work than joining an existing chapter, in that not only are you learning the standard new member stuff, but you are also learning firsthand how the sorority operates, truly taking responsibility for the new group as it progresses from colony to chapter and assuming leadership roles which would normally not be available to you as a new member.

i can understand not wanting to work that hard, and if you are not interested you did the new group a favor, by not joining and then being dead weight, but on the other hand, i think that you missed out on a unique experience and a tight knit bond by not attending this groups pref. and seeing what they had to offer. the colonists have such a strong bond between themselves and to the sorority in general, and now they are turning into amazing advisors in their own right.

If they only colonized last fall, throwing them into January formal recruitment with the same schedule as the other groups is a bit soon IMO. It seems (per the OP's "dropping out" statement) like girls are getting a vibe of "if you don't get a bid, go to the colony" - being forced into it.

I don't blame the OP for not wanting to join them. I made a similar decision when I was rushing. If the girls would have been amazing and blown me away in earlier rounds, I might have, but the truth is I didn't like the girls enough to put up with the work.
