There wouldn't be this volume of solicitations for donations from GLOs, general service organizations, colleges and universities, churches, barber shops, and so forth if the White House had not made an early statement of American government/government affiliates support. Then they said "if you lazy, spoiled rotten Americans wanna do something, check out whitehouse.gov for a list of charities." The media picked that up, started listing charities on various websites, and thus began the battle of the charities. Then radio cult leaders like Michael Baisden (I like him but he and others have way too much influence both good and bad--it's like some of his listeners were mindless drones before he existed) wouldn't shut up about it--having American-Haitians record pleas for help and stuff. LOL.

See, I am not sure about that. Given the nature of this catastophe, I really do believe that we would have seen a similar outpouring, even without the White House's statement. Some people are doing this because they generally feel compassion and want to help, even if that compassion is fleeting and will be forgotten tomorrow, not because they are mindless drones.
Sometimes it is challenging to have a discussion with you because your posts suggest that you are rather dismissive the intellectual and critical abilities of all but a small few.

I disagree.

And when you take something like "mindless drones" out of the context in which it was written, how can you blame me?

If that is the case I am even more surprised that you say you haven't seen it expressed. Individual solicitations are everywhere and not just on the news. Hence the origin of this thread and not to mention FB.
And as Dr. Phil said, since we comprise America it trickles down to us as individuals.

^^I mean I have seen a lot of folks asking for donations, but not in the context that it is our "duty" to make these contributions. I don't have people asking me what have I done for Haiti or telling me that I should be doing something, but that is my community. To me it hasn't seemed particularly different from other great natural disasters that we have seen in the last few years. I do not feel overwhelmed or surrounded.
And yes, they are related, but they are still separate and distinct; at least to me.

You agree that they are related. That is all.
No point in debating perceptions. Some people don't feel overwhelmed or surrounded. Some people do.

That wasn't the point though. But we can agree to disagree.

I prefer agreeing to argue.
At any rate, Little32, I thought about you when I saw this link: http://haitiearthquake.yahoo.com/net...ood/index.html
network for Good is trustworthy and they allow you the opportunity to designate your gift directly to haitian efforts.

No such thing. You either agree to keep discussing or agree to let it go.

I don't mind healthy debate either, but it seems to me a waste of time and energy when there aren't two open minds involved.
Thanks for the site. I am sure that it will be helpful to folks still looking for good places to make contributions.

Welp, you came into this discussion prepared to tell me how I'm closed to the intellect of all but a few. Little (no pun intended) did you know you had misinterpreted my posts.
That's cool to end a discussion without agreeing. Just don't assume that you're the open minded one.
