I'm a bit anxious. I posted my concerns on the Theta forum yesterday and Benzgirl was kind enough to provide a thoughtful reply. My daughter selected two, versus three, sororities on Preference Day (Kappa Alpha Theta and Delta Gamma), thereby reducing her options for a bid. Benzgirl thought she would remain in contention for a bid by having selected at least two sororities, although Kappa Alpha Theta and Delta Gamma are purportedly among the most popular at Ohio State.
Interestingly, over a half-dozen PNMs mentioned they also received two highly desired sorority options and a third choice they absolutely did not want among their Preference Day options.
Mere coincidence?

I think that would be the most likely combination for most girls. Having an option of a less competitive group is more likely since they usually are allowed to offer more invitations to their parties than the more popular groups.
As for the likelihood of getting a bid, as long as your daughter is high enough on Theta or DG's lists, she will get her bid, not listing the third chapter should not effect that as long as she wouldn't need to be a quota addition. She effectively eliminated her chances of being added to either group as a quota addition which may slightly decrease her chances of receiving a bid (minutely), but I don't even know if Ohio does QAs. If, however, she doesn't get a bid, I hope she really would prefer to not be in a sorority than to be a member of this third group.

If she does not get Delta Gamma or Kappa Alpha Theta, my guess is that she will be fine. I'm certain that all PNMs, including my daughter, were fully advised of the consequences of omitting a third choice from their preference sheet. She absolutely did not want to pledge the third unnamed sorority, so she must live with the results of her decision.

It's better than pledging and immediately dropping so kudos to her for knowing her mind, but sometimes I wonder what would happen if these girls would give these weak chapters a chance....

It might not be a weak sorority. It might be a perfectly fine or even super popular sorority that she personally can't stand.

I don't think he'd word it this way if it was between three super popular groups with one she just couldn't stand.

I don't think 6-8 girls make a determining factor in the popularity of sororities. It could be a bunch of sheep who've decided they don't want ABC because one of them took their man or something. If these other two groups are THAT high up and the girls got to that point for pref, it doesn't make sense that they would have a third group that was at the bottom of the pile.
Anyway, I would think/hope BamaDad wouldn't be making such distinctions on GC as someone was exceptionally rude to him previously regarding tiers and such.

I remember, but I do have a very good feeling that this is EXACTLY what he is talking about.

When I described their choices as "highly desired sororities", I meant in their eyes, not how they supposedly ranked on campus. If my daughter selects a house that is not quite as popular as others, I support her decision entirely. Her life, her choice.
I have no idea if Delta Gamma and Kappa Alpha Theta are highly regarded at Ohio State or not. What counts is whether my daughter likes them enough to pledge their house.

[thread hijack!]
BamaDad, are you aware that your email was hacked last month? I got a few emails "from you" which I knew were phony - but couldn't report them because I don't have .gmail. Hope you have that straightened out by now!

You are right. I don't know if Sorority #3 was fine or super popular or a weak house. All week, she repeatedly spoke of the positives of Kappa Alpha Theta, Delta Gamma, and Kappa Delta (who cut her right before Preference Day).
