I think the OP is probably hearing the tent talk that circulates among mothers in the SEC. Yes, she may have no Greek experience, but as we all know, Greek stereotypes and the rumors about the houses on any given campus are widely known.

I am also going to give her the benefit of the doubt regarding her question.

OP - What you have heard (and I tend to definitely believe Ole Miss Glitter) is absolutely without any merit. Unfortunately, rankings, opinions, tiers, etc are part of a Greek Lore that is nearly impossible to kill in the SEC. There is no real reason other than tradition that certain groups are more desired than others. People believe a certain "truth" about a house and that becomes the reality. What Ole Miss Glitter and others have said is true. All of the houses pledge wonderful young women who contribute to campus life in a positive way, etc.

Tell your daughter to keep all of her options open, do not count out ANY house, do not TALK about the reputations of the houses - at any time, in any place.

And, a word to the wise: YOU should not talk about the reputation of any houses. The party line is "Daughter is so excited to be attending Ole Miss and going through rush. She looks forward to meeting all of the girls and hopefully pledging next fall." Nothing else. No "We are hoping for XYZ." No, "Why is ABC not doing well on campus?" As a non Greek, (again, citing SEC unwritten rules here) you will be looked upon like a "Wannabe" discussing something that you have no firsthand knowledge of and this will HURT YOUR DAUGHTER's rush.

GREAT advice, and bold portion emphasized by me.
Best of luck to you and your daughter.
