What's funny is that I just assumed that most all GLOs had rituals for alumni only. That was just one bit of Sorority Wars that I thought was off-base. They held their alumae meeting at a country club out in the open and I thought "yeah, right!"
So now I have another question to throw into the mix. If your GLO does not have rituals for alumni, do you meet in public?

when we aren't doing ritual then yes, we do meet in a public place (or in a room that the blinds need to be drawn).
ETA: AOII does NOT have a ritual specifically for alumnae - other than the open ceremonies and memorials perviously mentioned.

Our rituals are not SPECIFICALLY for alumnae, but alumnae do have rituals.

Leslie,
Our meeting are held in members' homes. Hubby's are around, kids are around. Nothing secret about our meetings.

That (at least I think it is) is our organization as well. In our case, actives are allowed to be present for alumnae rituals but the rituals are for the alumnae. I think that is what you meant....

It's possible she means that alumni have rituals for chapter meetings and initiations just like undergrads.

There actually is a special ritual for alumnae...just read it the other day...it only differs by paragraph, but it is different all the same. Check the ritual book!

Oops. That seems likely.
Well, in any case, the meaning I interpreted is how it is in my sorority.

Our alumni meetings are often at restaurants, coffeeshops, and other public places, or at members homes with other family members sometimes in and out and around. They are not secret.

Hmm, interesting. My experience has been quite different. I can think of two things done at an AA meeting that I wouldn't feel comfortable doing in public. Maybe it differs from AA to AA? I don't know.
