In case you didn't know, White folks can be thugs too. I have been in these poor White neighborhoods I'm refering to (when I was younger) and when I saw a group of young White boys together (late at night) looking like they were up to no good (and they usually were), I crossed the street. Research that.

Poverty is linked to the problem but poverty is not the cause, it is the effect.
Are you from N. Philly? Just look at all the professional athletes from that neighborhood. Most of them are millionares and they are still criminals. Eddie Griffin(NBA criminal), Aaron Mckie(arrested last year), Marvin Harrison(shot a guy last summer), Dionte Christman( arrested this summer). What is their excuse?

True but I don't see the trailer trash getting freebies. In the city HUD builds 10 story apartments fo free and then ten years later they tear down the buildings and build new buildings.

You are probably talking about San Francisco but there are not too many cities like that. They should do away with their subsidies too. SF had a ton of .com money which boosted the housing prices. The market should set the price and in a weak market the prices will eventually come down. It was the school teachers and city workers that wanted the subsidies. If the prices don't come down then labor should negotiate better contracts to get a piece of the pie.

Because you don't know what you're looking at and, as you know, are intentionally going based on stereotypes rather than the reality.
Poor whites comprise most of the AFDC and other safety net and welfare benefits. As for neighborhoods, these benefits tend to take a different form in white neighborhoods than they do in Black or Hispanic neighborhoods. HUD homes are also in the white neighborhoods but "high rise" projects are found in more Black and Hispanic neighborhoods. Obama's initiatives would most likely be applied to more Black neighborhoods than white neighborhoods to address the disproportionate poverty and poor living conditions.

Dude, are you fucking kidding me? Seriously? Those douche bags get freebies all the time. It's usually 10 people to a trailer and all of them are on welfare and/or they're either unemployed or working a shitty job, and they don't get freebies? Bullshit! You make good points that I agree with but you're targeting one group of people.

Yes most of the bad neighborhoods are a result of subsidized housing.
People leaving does not destroy neighborhoods. It is the hoodrats that move into a neighborhood that destroy the neighborhood. Highways and cheap transportation did not cause people to leave it just made it easier for them to leave. It is the criminal element that causes most of the good people to leave.

Canada is still open to you.

If I did leave you would probably follow me. Actually if enough people like me left then you would have to follow us because the country would not have enough people paying into the system to pay for the freebies for you and all of your half siblings.
If white flight contributed to the demise of the inner cities then the same thing would happen if we left the country.
Now get a job and take care of your kids!!

lol
I'm sorry but this post made me laugh.

Not to make a million posts in a row, but I agree with this to an extent. I understand some people are less fortunate than others and sometimes their misfortunes aren't always their fault, but what makes me mad is when I'm standing in line at a grocery store and I see a family with a cart full of kids and another one in the oven, and then they pay with a welfare card. Sometimes they even ask for "cash back". I mean, if you can't afford the kids you already have, then don't have anymore. That means that I have to feed them. My God, that makes me SO mad.

I live in a wealthy area of Houston where there are also some HUD subsidized apartments and townhomes. They are populated by hardworking people who want their kids to attend the excellent public schools. These apartments and townhomes are not "ghetto", they are not run down or over-ridden with criminals. (The only issues we have had in the past few years is when some New Orleans evacuees came and had issues with the Houston residents who already were there)
My kids have attended the public schools (and the highschool regularly sends kids to top colleges, from Ivy leagues to top state schools) with the kids from the HUD units, and these kids and families are wonderful! Many of those kids obtain scholarships, either academic or athletic, and go on to bigger and better things. I also think it has been valuable to my kids to not live in a bubble, but to see that they are fortunate and to understand that not all kids live like they do.
So, there's another example -
Highschool is Stratford Highschool, Houston, Texas
and btw - there's one policeman, Officer Farley, and he's more like Barney Fife loveable
