Red face You want me to do WHAT?

This morning, I was asked by my supervisor to clean out the refrigerator. Pretty normal, right? THIS REFRIGERATOR HAS NOT BEEN CLEANED OUT FOR OVER TWO YEARS. I've been at that office for a little over two years...and I'm pretty sure no one ever bothered cleaning that thing out. As grossed out as I was, I happily put on my gloves and mask and scrubbed away!

Okay, I know most of us here on GC work. Has there ever been a time when a boss asked you to do something so outrageous? Something so trivial?

Last semester, UH-Manoa got a new President. I work at the ID/Info Office, so Dr. Dobelle needed his Administration ID. Only Dr. Dobelle was unable to come to our office (*cough*too lazy*cough*), so one of his staffers instructed us to print out the large photo of him from his university bio and hold the printed copy up to the ID camera lens and make his card from there. I'm like, "Whatever...he's the university president." The end result looked like CRAP (which I had predicted) and Dr. Dobelle was not pleased with it. He finally showed up at our office to take a real photo.

I'm curious to hear your stories!!!

When I worked at the Gap a kid crapped the floor and I was asked to clean it up. I flat out said no. It was a summer job, so what were they gonna do, fire me? She cleaned it up her own darned self!

When I was like 15, I worked at a roller skating rink. One day I was working concession and they asked me to clean the cappucino machine. Like Sandy, I thought "no biggie..." until I opened the machine and realized that they probably hadn't cleaned it since they bought it! There was coffee powder everywhere and it was also caked into the tubes. I spent like three hours soaking them in loads of hot water until it finally started to come off. After I quit, I would always warn people not to drink it cuz I figure it hasn't been cleaned since then!

At one of the Drs. meeting last year we were told by the manager that we were going to be responsible for cleaning the toilet-WTF??? I am sorry but I went to school for a long time so I would not have to clean the toilet. Needless to say the Drs. said no way and I was the most vocal about it-that is not my job!

When I was an intern at ABC News in LA, I was told to iron one of the anchor's shirts for him. Did I mention that I wasn't getting paid?

Geez Teeny,

I've got to get my mind up to sea level.

When I read the topic, I thought someone had asked you to perform some kind of unnatural physical act or something.

Yikes.

this was a former job about 7 years ago-

I was paged by boss at 10pm Friday night, was on a date, he said emergency at my house, please come out here immediately.

So I make my apologies to date and hightail it to his place 35 minutes away.

What was the emergency?

When he was in the kids playroom and the phone rang, he couldn't get to it before voice mail picked up.

Solution? I took a phone out of a little used bedroom and plugged it into the playroom jack.

I am not kidding.

When I worked at Charlotte Russe, some kid puked all over the floor of our dressing rooms. It was really gross. My assistant manager told me to clean it up. I told him, "If you make me clean it up, I will end up getting sick and we will have an even bigger mess." He refused to clean it up so it sat there over night!!!! He calls my manager the next day and tried to be a tattle tail. He got written up because a) cleaning up barf is not an employee's duty and b) he left it there over night. He refused to talk to me the rest of the time I was employeed there. Oooooh!....big loss!
