Hazing? The kid was sitting alone in a taxi cab. Wow, kids these days are not very smart.

Well, if you read the article thoroughly, you will see that he mentioned he was forced to drink by his fraternity and was fearful of being kicked out if he didn't. That's obviously a clear definition of hazing. Clearly none of us know if it's true or not, but I'm sure it will come out "in the wash" when it becomes a University and/or court issue.

I did read the article. Did you not see the part where he is in the cab, alone, with alcohol drinking? I'm pretty influential, but I can't force anyone to do anything when I'm not there.. Altho, I have been working on my mind control.

It's a cop out to try and get out of trouble with the law.

Stranger things have happened when people are being hazed.

It isn't uncommon for "pledges" to be influenced to do things alone or in groups of "pledges" in order to free the members from blame.

The investigation will determine whether his claim is hogwash.

Should be interesting.... IF it does get upheld then every pledge everywhere should use that as their excuse when caught doing something bad.

True, you caught me strangling my ex girlfriend who just dumped me. I'm drunk and high on meth... But my fraternity hazes me and said I HAD to do this or they would kick me out.

The kid had a social and was at Bourbon Street, got into a cab to go back to the dorm, puked, got arrested, and blamed it on his fraternity. This was not hazing in the least bit. If my fraternity hazed me by allowing me to go to a social and letting me drink I probably would have loved them forever. The kid not only screwed over Pike, but is probably going to screw all the fraternities on campus and is going to have no social life whatsoever if he decides to stay at UGA. Poor, poor decisions.

My daughter and 2 nieces are at UGA and they say that there are reporters and camera crews all over campus. So far, sentiment is definitely running against the kid.

Banditone, you're so right about the future excuses.

Ahhhh, and well, it seems he was a DTD pledge first and was blackballed by his own pledge class. I'd put good money on his transferring to another school very soon.

I cant believe this kid. He's screwing over a fraternity to cover up his own actions. Who wants to make a bet Pike will get on social probation at the LEAST. The worst part is, the brothers were probably only trying to show their pledges a good time.

He's recanted the story according to today's red & black, the Georgia newspaper. Interestingly, the editorial board is still blaming the fraternity, saying they forced the kid to recant.

Article:

The editorial:

Sounds like the newspaper staff is seriously anti Greek. What else is new?

My two cents on the issue as a non-Greek (but currently rushing) observer:

1. Don't drink more than you can hold, seriously.

2. Don't stiff cabbies, that's just being a douche and more often than not will get you in deep ****.

3. If you get caught, man up and take what you have coming. Pawning off blame on others is the mark of an immature jack***.

Another clear case of: Stupid is as Stupid does. I assume he got fake id on own to get in bar. Sounds like a potential Dram Shop case.
