^^^^ there is actually no smiley that shows howling with laughter, holding sides, tears running down face.

That "bean" looks like a "kidney"; what next? a brain charm? a lung? a stomach? From Aphrodite to organ jewelry... sigh. I pass.

I don't think they could get any crappier from when I was initiated in 2002 - however, I bought an antique badge off ebay from when Balfour was doing our badges and it is 1000x better. The gold doesn't look cheap, the ASA letters are actually engraved into the badge, and the pearls are set so much nicer. Bonus that I found one from my chapter that already had a chapter guard welded to it.

We have the horseshoe and the kidney as well. I didn't complain about those, because at least they have letters on them. If I saw someone wearing one, I would still know they were an ASA. I do actually like some of the badge-outline pendants that they have. An ASA would recognize it, but it doesn't shout "I can't let go of college". I have a crest lavaliere that has letters on the back that I wear every day, but the only people who generally ever ask about it are Greeks. A non Greek probably would have no clue what it was.

Generally speaking, I'm pretty pleased with all of our other HJ accessories and extras though.
went checking and those two items are listed for Alpha Xi Delta as well. Hmmm... I guess all our rituals and symbols are more similar than I thought :-) .. there are also a number of dangles listed that have no meaning or
no connection to any of our offices.

A few years ago, we had to send back an entire batch of badges because the quality was so bad.

They offer dangles for us, too. Mind you, I've never seen a brother (or any guy that I can recall) wearing dangles, but at least they got the titles right and the dangles make sense contextually.

They don't seem to have anything for us that it is totally out of left field (unless you count dangles). And at least they stopped selling lavaliers for us -- I guess someone from HQ had a talk with them about that.

That aphrodite ring has absolutely nothing to do with our ritual, and as far as I can remember, there's no special significance in a heart to an Alpha Gamma Delta.

We actually have a Ritual, Traditions and Jewelry committee that has to approve any of the jewelry for AOII. They usually do a pretty good job, though they did let the pink stone ring slip through...go figure! There's actually one that's worse with AOII embossed in silver on the stone....ugh! I guess the other stuff is for alumnae mainly so they can have some "AOII" jewelry that doesn't scream AOII. We don't have a lot of the weirder things, though, that make absolutely no sense, like the horseshoe, strange dangles or the kidney necklace!

Is it just me, or do some of those items look basically like HJ is trying to be Tiffany & Co.?

But I believe that we HAD the horseshoe and kidney a few years back. And I know we had the dangles back in the early 00s - to be put on a bracelet - but obviously they were done away with. My guess would be due to lack of sales. . .

Maybe so...I don't remember seeing them, but I may not have been looking closely when I was in residency! Ha! They need to let us on RT&J so we can say NO to these atrocities!!!

We sure did have those things. I remember The Emporium catalogue had a picture of an AOII 4-leaf clover t-shirt and the horseshoe necklace was on the same page. As for the kidney necklace, I have one of those to go with my Red Bean and Rice bracelet. http://www.mignonfaget.com/shop/product/5310.html

But that only makes sense for the Louisiana girls!

HJ looks at trends in jewelry, creates items that follow that trend and then attaches letters to the items so they can be "sorority" items as well. Horseshoes were big a few years ago thanks to SATC, just like the Return To Tiffany-style bracelets were big when I was in school. That's what happens when you're the jewelry distributor for almost every NPC org and are trying to appeal to as broad as demographic as possible.

Alpha, that same weird necklace is under DPhiE's stuff, and it's called the 1917 pendant, and there's some fugly ring too, that sorta matches it. We have the aphrodite as well! Thank god DPhiE did the partnership with tiffany so I can get my DPhiE bracelet that IS tiffany and doesn't look like a bad knockoff

Jess, I just want to say that that pendant looks like something Miss Cosplay would dream up when she was tweaked. That tacky ass faux Tiffany stuff needs to go away from everywhere.
