Thank you, everyone
I just saw this thread now, and can't begin to tell you how much I appreciate your kind thoughts and prayers. My mother was an amazing lady, with the steel in her spine to correct social injustice, but always with that loving touch. She was also my best friend, and I feel honored to have spent the past almost six years making her life easier after her other heart attacks. She would have been somewhat embarrassed by how many people have sent their sympathies to us.
Since we're talking quotes, her favorite was from Albert Schweitzer. It's often attributed to Mohammed Ali, but she had/I have a booklet with the quote from 1955 (when he was still Cassius Clay): "Service to others is the rent you pay for the space you occupy on Earth."
I can only hope to be half the woman, half the lady, that she was. Thanks again.

PS: I'd be remiss if I didn't tell you that, in talking with some of her friends, we all agreed that the past week was "one Steel Magnolia moment after another"! Thank you for starting this thread, wrigley!
