yeah i couldn't believe it either. It was funny because although they used to have the highest gpa among the houses they had been passed but another house this year so their slogan wasn't even accurate. This house is one that usually is very selective but I just found out they had a really bad recruitment and didn't make quota. I think it was the outfits day one that killed them. They gave out a few snap bids on bid night to girls who had quit recruitment but they have to wait until after the colony finishes their recruitment to give any more bids.

I personally don't think it was the white shorts at all. In fact, I thought it was cute and fun. Many girls I know that wanted them got cut. One dropped out of recruitment cause she was so upset she got cut from them. I personally loved this house, but then again, I wasn't told about 4.0's and 40's haha.

Sometimes this happens to popular chapters because they are forced to make a lot of cuts based on past performance, so they don't have a long bid list. If the PNMs that year choose their competitors over that chapter, poof, they don't make quota.

I feel like this may have been the case. I actually preffed at the house she is talking about and I liked it, but I didn't feel like they wanted me. And it made it SO much easier to choose my house over them. Many PNM's could have felt this way and went to the competitors house. Just a thought.

So I woke up early on day four(house tours) of recruitment even though we didn't have to meet up until the afternoon. I barely slept that night because I was so confused about what to do. After talking to both my rho gam and the colony consultant I made the decision to withdraw from formal recruitment and pursue the colony. I was very relieved when I made this decision because I was done with recruitment for the next week. I also knew that I had really good chances with the colony because I had rec's from alum and fraternity members who were asked for a list of potential members. Also being a junior was a plus to the colony as opposed to a negative thing for the established chapters.

Two days later I went to sign up for a membership consultation with the colony. I was very excited about it but nervous too. It was bid day for all the other girls and I was a little jealous that they got to find out tonight where they were going. As the day went on I began thinking about all the aspects of a sorority i was going to miss out on by doing the colony like no big sis, no house for the first year, and no traditions. I also realized that i didn't know who the other founders would be and that I might not even get along with them. I had a small panic attack about this and really regretted withdrawing from formal. There was also the chance that I wouldn't even get a bid to the colony. I had made my decision though and I had to deal with whatever the consequences would be.

My story isn't over yet though...

I was the member of a colony on my campus. While it is a little bit of a different experience, we pretty much did everything all of the established chapters did. We had a very active social calendar our very first semester, we had football block (our school's tailgateish thing), we had a barn dance, formal, semi formal...you name it, we did it! My current roommate, who is in another chapter couldn't believe that we were already doing everything that they were doing!

While we didn't have bigs, we did have twins instead, and it worked out very well. Also, we had a house right away, but it needed major renovations, so no one lived in, and we were only there for meetings. Still, my sisters and I hung out together a LOT at each others dorms, apartments, etc. The only thing we really "lacked" were traditions, but the fun part about that is that we get to start our own!!

Just something to think about!

PS I'm like 90% sure of your school!

the end of my story!

So as mentioned in the last post it was bid day for formal recruitment which I had withdrawn from before house tours. Although the colony sounded like a great idea, i was beginning to realize what i would be missing by not being part of a established chapter. The whole day I had been beating myself up over my decision to withdraw when I only had two houses jasmine and aurora because i knew girls in both those houses.

So bid day was at 7pm and around 530 and a friend of mine from a sorority on campus called me. I didn't even know what to think when i saw her name on the screen. She called and asked why I had decided to withdraw and said that the girls I had rushed with at her house had really liked me. I explained myself and talked about the colony. She then said that if i wanted to do the colony i should go for it but if i was having second thoughts that she wanted to offer me a bid! WHAT!? i thought i withdrew how can this happen? I was so overwhelmed that I told her I would call her back in a few. I called my rho gam but she was busy. So i called my parents and told them what was going on. They told me it was my decision. Urg! I had to make my choice soon because I had to go to bid day to accept my bid if i wanted it. So go with the colony and take a big chance not knowing if ill get a bid or who the other girls will be? Or do i accept a bid to a chapter that wants me and where I had had good times during recruitment?

I called my friend back with my decision and what did i say? I told her i would love to accept the bid they had offered me! I was so happy and then I even got to bid day and open my envelope! It was the most intense two hours of my life thus far packed with so many emotions!

I also got to catch up with my friends! When I showed up to the field I couldn't believe how many girls weren't there. My rho gam said that on house tours almost 200 hundred girl withdrew! A lot had to do with swine flu which really sucked for those girls who would have continued with recruitment if they weren't ill. Anyways Lily only had preffed at belle which she was really happy about, so she knew she got her number one on bid day! Tink had gotten cut from alice after house tours which she was a little upset about because they were her number one. She had aurora and jasmine and had ranked jasmine number one on pref night.

So which house did I get? Well when we ripped open our envelopes Lily had Belle, Tink had Jasmine and I had...
