110% Agree.

If he had accomplished something or was ont eh fast path to have accomplished somethign great that he has spoken about regarding global diplomacy, then I would have a different opinion.

I'm sorry, but I find this to be a crock of BS.

I don't care about differing opinions regarding his worthiness.

You do:

I think that it is a great surprise to many and a wonderful honor for him.
Let it go...

Obama says he will accept the Prize as a call to action and a source of inspiration. Well, that's why the Award was awarded prematurely--it was an award for the promises of the Administration.
Kind of like awarding a gold medal to a swimmer before he jumps in the water in the hopes that it will push and inspire him to swim faster.

It demeans the significance of the award. But what else is new in this, "You're so awesome, Good Job!!" (even if you aren't, and it wasn't) era?

You're insane. Yassir Arafat won a Nobel Peace Prize. Your blind support of the Nobel committee is ... um... less than laudable. Think critically.

Although I am an supporter of Obama, I agree with this 100%. When I heard the news I was just like..."Um...wait, why?"

On a slightly different subject, I am STILL not sick of Kanye West jokes. Just saw this on Twitter:

"YO PRESIDENT OBAMA I KNOW YOU'RE GETTING A NOBEL PEACE PRIZE AND IMMA LET YOU FINISH, BUT AL GORE WAS THE GREATEST WINNER OF ALL TIME"

I attempted to search for a list of nominees, but that information is sealed until 2059. I did learn, however, that the nomination process takes a year which starts in September, nominations close in February and the deliberating process continues until the winner is announced in October.

Unless I miss my guess, Obama was nominated based on half a term as Senator, a book, campaign promises () and 12 days of presidency.

I must say I agree with DrPhil's assessment of the awards, even though the idealist in me died a little bit. He is now bound to his award. I wonder if this award and his promises and/or his duty as President will ever come into conflict (I would think not, but a lot can happen in 3 1/2 years)? I should be curious to see which one wins...

Here's where I found that info:
Fox
CNN

Administrations are always bound to political promises with the international community at some level, and this one just came in the form of a Nobel Prize.

So, yeah, Obama wasn't given one because HE deserved it.

The folks designated to vote answer only to their collective interpretation of that criteria. By virtue of the fact that they have selected Obama to receive the award, he deserves it.

It is, in a lot of ways, akin to sorority or fraternity membership. It's like someone telling you that a Delta, who you voted into the organization, does not deserve to be a Delta. What would your response be? I am sure that it would be something like, who are you--an outsider--to tell me--a member--who deserves to be voted into my organization.
WE ARE NOT QUESTIONING HIS RECEIPT OF THE AWARD BECAUSE HE IS BLACK.

I'm glad we've reached the point in the discussion where we are labeling dissenting opinions as "crazy."

max (as well as the rest of the train) has arrived on time.

reason why you may not have seen it was bbecause he/she/it deleted their message before it was quoted...however

Ah, ok...if you're referring only to Gamma with the "crazy" stuff, then I withdraw my statement.
