Just started watching Project Runway
We didn't receive Bravo at our house, so I didn't start watching Project Runway until recently. As a straight man, I will admit that I don't understand all the fashion nuances, so I have a couple of questions that I hope someone can answe.
Who is Tim Gunn and why is he so important? To be honest, he reminds me of a high school art teacher or choir director. Did/does he have a major role in the fashion industry?
The judges keep saying that that ultimate put-down of a fashion is that it is wearable. From what I know about fashion (admittedly not much), there are only a few thousand women in the world who can afford haute coutoure and almost every designer makes his/her money in ready-to-wear and licensing.
Likewise with the models, I cannot say that I find many of them to be attractive. But from what I can gather, runway modeling is different than magazine modeling or catalog modeling or modeling for advertising. Am I wrong?
On a positive note, I would like to say that it is refreshing to see that the persons who are eliminated are treated with some dignity. When Heidi Klum and Mr. Gunn say their good byes to the soon to be departed, both are very gentle and encouraging in their remarks to the person who just has had his/her dream smashed.
