I'll pose this question in here, because I'm curious about something I've seen on Instagram. I've noticed in certain pictures during pref rounds, some members are wearing tight and/or short dresses (more what I consider to be appropriate for a club setting). While I totally understand they are young and don't need to be dowdy (and I'm not THAT much older than them, so I have some of those dresses in my closet), is that really appropriate for recruitment in your opinions?
...and I DO love the Colbalt! Bold color!

IMO, no. It's not appropriate at all. We always remind PNMs that they're dressing to impress women not men. Some girls just don't get it though.

Sorry to pop in but your comments just reminded me of when I saw some of the PNMs' outfits for recruitment on my campus. I saw one instagram photo of two PNMs for the second day, which was basically dressy-casual, and one of the young ladies wore a crop top and high-low skirt. I was quite confused... Haha.

i agree. That is why when the chapters I advised had dress check during their work week, I was always present. I would wait to see if the the Exec. officers would talk to the girls who had the "clubby" dresses on. They did not hesitate to tell their sisters that they needed to wear something else a little less "hoochie mama". Every year the girls were reminded to keep the tags on any new rush clothing they bought and hold on to their receipts, because it had to pass inspection.
Take that girl on the left in the white dress Pitt ADPi photo. Darling girl and lovely figure, but her dress is a little too clubby for prefs. She would have been told to wear something less revealing and tight.
I am impressed with the cobalt-especially that all the dresses are the same shade.

You're right. There have been stories on here where the girl's dress was so short she exposed the goods to the whole room. Thankfully that level of short seems to be going out of style, but it's disappointing that 18 year olds don't know the difference in how to dress for a serious occasion versus going out to pick up guys.
And I will say again... Protect your dignity!

I like the cobalt blue dresses, it's something different from black or white. Some Sigma Kappa chapters are using variations of purple now for preference. I like that, as well.

I love the cobalt! My chapter used to wear pink and blue sarongs for prefs but last year we moved to "Sand and Sea" aka navy and sand/"nude" dresses.
And ugh it pains me as a collegian to see what people wear to our recruitment parties. My mother has always instilled in me that if you're not sure of the level of appropriateness, no one will ever judge you for dressing more conservative than you're supposed to be. And given what some people wear even just to CLASS these days, I'm eternally grateful to have learned early on what is appropriate and what's not.
If she ever saw that I wrote that she'd probably never let me forget it, but it's true. Now if she'd just stop nagging me for every time the tiniest big of bra strap is showing....

I thought PersistentDST was referring to the MEMBERS short tight dresses...and I agree. Some of the white dresses are too clubby.

Thank you, Sister!!
My bridesmaids actually wore that color in our wedding, and it looked great. I just don't like that people might think that's Azure Blue. Yet, I understand that not every woman looks good in Azure Blue,

Yeah, jewel tones tend to look better on a wide variety of people, and they're more on trend right now!

Yes, that's who I'm referencing in this case.
I just think there should be better judgement. I know if it was me as a PNM, (and I am FARRRRR from conservative) I'd be judging! LOL! Especially after reading posts on here about wardrobe. I can imagine a PNM stressing out about every detail of her outfit and walking in to Prefs and seeing a chapter member wearing a dress that the PNM was forewarned NOT to wear. Doesn't send a great message.

Roanoke Chi Omega. Informal recruitment. A year and a half ago, I did a recruitment story for the girl who is second from the left.
