Question about AOII

Hi! I'm going through rush soon and want to find out a little extra about some of the sororities. I know you get a new member pin, but when do you get it and do you get to keep it after you are initiated? Are there different versions of the official badge? I have seen some that have jewels and others that do not. (Not AOII but other sororities). Also, what is the one thing that makes you happiest to be an AOII? Thanks everyone!

You would get your new member pin at the pledging ceremony. The pin is the property of the chapter and is given back before initiation. The badge comes in several versions with a different numbers of pearls. We also have a Ruby A badge which is an honor badge given out by chapters. The one thing that makes me happiest to be an AOII is that I know that all of my sisters cherish the same ritual that means so much to me. I'm not sure why you have so many specific questions about AOII. If you are going to go through recruitment, keep an open mind. Recruitment is by mutual selection so there are no guarantees that AOII will be the chapter you end up joining at the end of recruitment.

AOIIAngel hit the nail on the head with the questions about new member pins and badges.

Why am I happy to be an AOII? Because though I rushed years ago, AOIIs are still some of my closest friends and have been there for me through it all.

It is not that I don't want to give the others a chance, I am trying to find out about the few that are on my campus. I just wanted your opinions about being an AOII...so I figured this would be where to ask.

s4l,
I see where you are coming from asking this question, but really....ask any alumna from just about any organization and they would probably all have very similar answers. It's also dependent on whether you are asking collegians or alumnae. Most members who post frequently on this message board that are AOIIs (and even other sororities) are active alums(and some collegiates) in some form or another, so we're all a bit biased and would tell you that our organizations are the best...ultimately though all NPCs offer wonderful sisterhood and philanthropy.

When choosing during recruitment, look around the room at the girls who you are going through recruitment with, and especially at pref...those will be the women with whom you will share your experiences. Some may be your friends for life, others may just end up as your sisters, and some of your sisters you might meet as a alumna may end up meaning more to you than your chapter sisters.

I hope that you did go through recruitment and found a group that welcomed you - whether it was AOII or another NPC group.
