Wow!!! Rush was amazing!!! I am physically exhausted but this is by far the most fun I've had at college yet!!! (My only complaint is that there was no food-- and break wasn't long enough for Chick-fil-A! Thank goodness for the campus market )

First I want to say that EVERY girl I met today was so sweet, friendly, courteous, and kind! All of the girls were awesome and all smiles!! When I went to each house with my group, the president and vp (or recruitment chair) were standing at the door, dressed up, welcoming each of us to the sorority's room! The girls were lined up behind the door, wearing their sorority's t-shirt and nice pants and shoes, and each of them guided us, which I loved, since I didn't have to walk in and stand around looking like an idiot. lol. Each room was decorated to represent the sorority. We visited all twelve houses and then did our ranking at the end of the day. We can attend 8 parties max on Saturday; I hope my experience continues!!!

Here's my run-down (not in chronological order):

Aurelia-- Loved this house!! These girls were really energetic and I loved the decorations!! The girl I talked to was really nice and courteous; the only thing is she was much taller than me so it was a tad awkward when we were standing up, plus my shirt was the same color as one of their colors (totally not intended). We spend most of the time sitting though. I hope to be invited back to this house!

Lily-- These girls were really sweet and bubbly! You could tell they are all SO SO proud to be XYZs. I talked to three girls and I really felt like I clicked with all of them. They came off as very fun-loving and their philanthropy is great. I'm not quite sure I would fit in with them but I want to get to know them better.

Katerina-- The girl I talked to in this house was really soft-spoken but friendly. She explained a lot about how the house started, which was interesting and I thought it was cool that she knew so much about her house's history.

Isabella-- This house doesn't stand out to me as much as the others, although the girl I talked to was really nice. I want to go back to get a better sense of what the house is about. I did love their decor! And I LOVE their philanthropy.

Tatiana-- The girl I talked to in this house was so much fun!! We actually discovered just a few minutes into our conversation that we are from the same area in the midwest, so we had plenty to talk about! These girls seemed really perky and happy!

Gina-- These girls were impressive in terms of their room, and their philanthropy and such but I just didn't feel like I connected with either girl that I talked to.

Cecilia-- The first girl I talked to was really nice and we had a funny conversation about the woes and embarrassing moments of a recreational activity we both used to do!! I didn't feel like I connected well with the second girl and our conversation felt a little forced.

Stella-- Great!!! I totally adore their philanthropy and I connected really well with the first girl I talked to, as we talked about dorm life. I like that I could have a real conversation with her and it didn't have to be "Hi, where are you from, what is your major" although of course that stuff came up too!

Madeline-- LOVED this house. Seriously. Love their philanthropy, love the feel I got from the room, and the girl I talked to was amazing. We're both in the same program so we had a lot to talk about and I felt like I connected really well with her. I really, really, REALLY want to go back!

Ava-- I really liked this house! The girl I talked to has a personality similar to mine, and we really clicked. She was really funny and down-to-earth and the decor in the room was amazing!! I want to go back!!

Evelyn-- The girl I talked to in this house was uber-passionate about her sorority and their awesome philanthropy. She had to talk to two of us at once, though, and I think she and the other girl had a better connection but she was still very, very nice to me!!

Mia-- The girl I talked to in this house was such a sweetheart! I loved talking to her and I love the house symbol and colors! I can see myself fitting into this house and I want to go back!

It's amazing how fast fifteen minutes can go by; that's all the time we got in each room!! Honestly my goal today was to be myself and I think I did that; I made sure to tell most of the girls that what I am looking for is a group of lifelong friends! I hope I get invited back to the houses I liked, but I have to accept that that is out of my control. All I can do is be me and choose the houses I like and hopefully the two will cross over and I can find a home!

I think I'm more nervous for tomorrow (getting party schedule) than I was for today! Wish me luck!!

Sounds like you had a lot of fun in the first round! You found something positive when you visited each chapter, and you sound like you're keeping an open mind even about the places you went where you weren't as comfortable. Good for you.

I wouldn't sweat your shirt being the same color as one of Aurelia's colors. It happens- the only color I don't believe any NPC sorority has for an official color is orange. As long as you're fitting in with the recommended attire for each day, wear what's comfortable and looks nice on you.

Good luck to both of you!

Second day done! The parties were 30 minutes today and most of the chapters did a little presentation to tell us more about their sorority. It was a long day, but overall lots of fun!

To be honest, it did hurt a little (ok, a LOT) when I saw my party schedule and saw that I had been cut from two houses that I really adored. I know it's not a personal attack but it still makes me question why it happened, what I did wrong...and it's making me dread the cuts that are yet to come. I have definitely developed preferences and I'm scared that my experience will end in disappointment. Here's hoping it does not!

Today I visited seven houses:

Tatiana-- these girls seem like SO much FUN!! They were all clapping and singing and I loved the positive atmosphere. Great music and pictures, cute theme, and most importantly I really liked the girls I talked to.

Gina-- I liked the girl I talked to today but I just don't feel a strong connection with this house. I will absolutely be open to them if I get invited back but right now I just don't know if this is the house for me. Cute song, though!

Cecilia-- I had a harder time in this house today because they took us in pairs (one active for two recruitment girls) and the other girl had the more "dominant" personality (not in a bad way). I didn't feel like I connected with the girls I talked to because I had a hard time balancing the conversation between me and the other girl. These girls were very sweet, though.

Stella-- I really liked this house!!!! The girls seemed really genuine and down to earth and their philanthropy rocks. I really felt like I clicked with the first girl I talked to, and the other two girls I talked to were also very friendly and down-to-earth.

Madeline-- I'm in love. Completely in love. I loved the girls I talked to today, love their philanthropy, loved the feel of the feel of the room, loved everything!!!! The thing is I misunderstood something one of the girls said as we were walking to the door and I said something really idiotic (not offensive, just stupid) so I'm worried I left a bad last impression and I'm worried I may not be invited back.

Evelyn-- Again, the girls were talking to two of us at once and the other girl and the active had a lot in common so I didn't feel like I connected with her as well as I could have. She was really nice, though, and clearly enthusiastic about her sorority!

Mia-- I really liked this house! I didn't feel like I clicked with these girls quite as well as I did with the girl I talked to yesterday but I still really, really like them and the feel of their sorority. These girls have gorgeous house colors and they are all so lovely.

5 houses max tomorrow. I'm really worried about cuts but I know that is just part of the process. In the end, I hope to end up in a sorority that I love, with girls that I can form lifelong friendships with, but I know the final decision (of accepting a bid or not) will be in my hands. It's just pretty hard along the way!!

Be positive! Don't prophesize bad things. Just keep an open mind. It is out of your control...just roll with it, girlfriend!

Cuts will happen, but something to keep in mind is that most girls won't have a full schedule everyday.

Also, a full schedule is not neccessary to get a bid.

hey all

it was a sad day. i got cut from all the houses that i liked and i ended up dropping out of recruitment. i did go to the two parties i had today to be mature and respectful but i didn't feel a connection with either one.

i am completely devastated right now...words can't even describe how gutted i am. the walk from my last party to my dorm was the hardest thing i've ever done because i had to walk right by the lines of girls for the three houses i loved most. all my dreams about college revolved around being in a sorority and now that is lost. my rho chi said i should try again this spring or next year but i don't think i can go through this again. i've never been so hurt in my life.

this will probably be my last post at gc and i just wanted to say that i am incredibly grateful for all of the help and support i recieved from gc members since i started posting. you all are wonderful and i have no hard feelings towards anyone except myself.

peace & love

giuliana

I don't know if you'll be back to read this, but Alpha Gamma Delta is recolonizing at ASU in January. It's a completely different kind of experience to be part of a colony but you may want to consider looking into it. The recruitment experience is very different too. There are advantages and disadvantages to being in a colony, but you're building a sisterhood from scratch and there are leadership opportunities immediately too. It's just something else to consider, once you get over this initial disappointment.
