I was completely shocked by the girls' bottom 2... but then not really. Halfway through last night's show, I was convinced that Melissa and Ade were heading home. But after their second performance, I figured that'd carry them into next week. Janette and Evan's performances last night weren't that memorable, so I can understand how Janette ended up in the bottom 2. It's unfortunate that it sometimes comes down to the choreography and types of dances that are given to the performers.
And I'd just like to say that those two slower dances by Janette and Evan and Jeanine and Brandon were, as Nigel put it, painful to watch. They were waaaaay too slow. And with Melissa and Ade's cha cha, the music was fast but I thought the choreography was too slow. The second half of the show really made the night.
As for the guys... I was shocked. Again, Evan was in two dances that weren't particularly great. And I think I expected Brandon's popularity to get him by.
Jason going home really made me sad. These past two weeks, he's been amazing, and he did exceptionally well last night. When I watch dances on this show, the majority of the time, I find myself watching the girls for 90% of the performance. But recently, I've been watching Jason instead. It's upsetting to see him go.
ETA: It also sucks that Janette didn't get the praise she deserved until after she was kicked off the show.

Boo. I'm shocked and disappointed that Kayla is staying and Jeanette is going home.
I was also disappointed in Katie Holmes' performance. Rather flat and blah for me.

Third to the above quoted post!!
Okay, who thinks Melissa deserves to dance Krump next time???
It is soooo about the choreography, and it seems a bit suspect that it is supposed the be "random", yet she and Ade get BALLET??? Come on, who else could have danced that? Yet, she has yet to get hip hop???
Don't get me wrong, I really love Melissa, but I just call "Shenanigans" on the randomness of the choreography.

I think Evan is adorable and super talented in his own style, but he's definitely nowhere near as good as the other boys left. Thanks to his stupid fanbase he's long outstayed his welcome... he's the only person that has never been in the bottom now.

Yeah, Melissa's definitely been getting her style all the time, but to be fair on the ballet, any other girl could have done it too. They just wouldn't have been on pointe.

I've thought the exact same thing for a little while. It seems that everyone else is getting some random dances and choreography week after week, but she always seems to get assigned styles that are fairly safe for her. Like I said, even that cha cha was slow for a cha cha. I just don't think she has the ability to dance every style extremely well, which should be required of the winner of this show.

Evan is like Melissa in that he does exceptionally well in his own style of dance, but he struggles with others. He has a look about him that would be perfect for Braodway, and for making "large", animated facial expressions within that genre, but he's just not the best in every style of dance.

It was pretty obvious "shananigans" last year, too. Katie got Bollywood, Ballet, and a number of other best dances.

It was just a completely different show. They had that plastic surgery poster child Lauren Sanchez as host. The couples changed every week. Sometimes, two couples performed the exact same routine. Not to mention, the judges picked the bottom three couples and America voted from those selections. There was also no Vegas week the way it is now; it was all studio time. It's hard to discuss it when the format is completely changed.
I compare it to some of my favorites, like Will and Grace and Sex and the City. Will had long hair and Karen didn't have her signature voice in the first few episodes. Carrie addressed the camera in season one and a little into season two. People tend to prefer the later episodes of those; they changed things because what they had wasn't working.
I was glad there was at least SOME footage of Season 1 in the montage: Blake and Ashle's samba, Melody and Alan's lyrical, Blake's solo, etc.

I noticed Blake and Alan in the footage and it made me happy!
Oh! And Jonnis!! He wasn't great at choreography, but I liked watching him dance.
They've mentioned Nick a few times. I LOVED Melody! I like how they switched partners each week! I don't think it's fair that some couples spend the first 5 weeks together, and others have to switch every couple weeks because their partner goes home. And I liked that Lauren Sanchez could actually dance. But I've come to love Cat's uniqueness and how much she loves the contestants.

It seemed like Jeanette was comforting the judges who kept saying she shouldn't go home. She actually seemed a little pissed, and I was too!
SNOOZE at Katie Holmes' performance. She danced and sang "Get Happy", but just seems like a very sad, boring person.

I'm starting to call shenanigans on SYTYCD. I could've told you who would've been paired tonight before the show even started. And surprise, surprise Evan got a Broadway number
