^^^I agree with the more undesirable than not across the board, but I feel like I've heard "colored" more in the South than anywhere else. The majority still doesn't like it, but the South seems to lose the battle by a smaller margin IMO.

Hearing it in the South more than other regions doesn't mean anything beyond the history of the term.
Most Blacks in the South prefer not to be called "colored." This includes many elderly Blacks--the ones who know they can now look whites in the eyes, that is.

times and ages have changed. people depending on age have different thoughts and upbringing. some today make a bigger problem out of it than should be.

IMO, Colored is far more politically correct, I've called all of my Colored friends, African American, or Afro American, and they hated it, they thought I was taunting them.

Do you speak for your entire race?
If so then what is the new politically correct term for the next 100 years? I would like to know since you change the term every couple of years and I don't want to step on any toes when YOU change the term and forget to send the rest of the planet the memo on the new term.

I use the word colored with my friends pretty often when referring to us as a group or something like that. (They are mostly Hispanic.)
I would not mind if an older person or most other people using it in a non-offensive way referred to me as colored. I am colored. I am Black. I am American. I am Jamaican. What I don't like, is the term African-American. I will correct someone on that.

Um..sorry, but madmax, where do you come off to calling people a dumb*ss? I'm sure your parents would be ashamed, as well as God.

if someone called me colored... they would get the blankest stare. its up there with calling an Asian "oriental."

that's what they're called in Europe. "Asian" over there refers to some one from central part of Asia.

So far we have some black people that prefer the term African American and some that do not. We also have some that don't mind the term colored and others that get all uppity if they hear the term colored. Why bother trying to be pc?

for a social experiment, use the word colored in a predominantly black neighborhood. you might get the answer you're looking for.

Sweetie, not all black people are Af.-Am. I know it's hard to wrap your head around it. I know it's difficult because you maybe can't tell the difference and don't understand why it's important for all people to be able to identify themselves as they see fit. However, that's what makes us unique and makes us people. It's true of everyone on this earth. At the end of the day we are not a collective. We self-define. There is no one-size-fits-all.
