Squealing "EWWW BOOBIES" when you see them, maybe = immature.
But just prefering to NOT see them does not.

What's the difference between a breast and a hand or a face? Nothing. For the most part, American women do not cover, so we really have no religious objection to seeing the shoulders, bellies, bare backs etc. (think bikinis) of our women. So, there's no reason we should have a problem with breasts (or the vulvular area, or a penis for that matter) unless we're subconciously equating them with sex or sin.

I dunno..... I'm just sort of into modesty.
When I was in grad school, we had to go to an art class and write a poem about a nude model. I was very uncomfortable and resentful that it was mandatory.
I'm pretty religiously liberal, so it wasn't a moral objection, I suppose. And the model wasn't of my preferred gender, so it wasn't sexual.
I just don't want to see twat-twat, cack, or boobies. Butt cheeks = okay.

Eh...it's just flesh to me. However, all of this made me think of something that happened to me when I was traveling back to New York from the south. My husband and I stopped in at a hotel to rest overnight because we were driving a gigantic Penske truck loaded with furniture and it was slow going.
I think hotel rooms are completely disgusting and I'm sleeping on all kinds of bodily fluids; however, I can't sleep with anything on my body, so I slept nude. I was kinda paranoid that someone would break into the truck, but I tried to relax.
In the morning, the paranoia got the better of me and I went to check. First, I looked out the window but the truck was too far to the right for me to see it. Then, I looked out the door's peephole. I could see the edge of the truck but nothing else. So, I had to open the door.
I'm not uncomfortable with people seeing me naked, but I know that other people have an issue with it, so I always try to make sure no one is around. I opened the door, peeked around, didn't see anyone and then opened it more widely to get a look at the truck. All was well.
Then, to my surprise, the phone rang! I figured it was the front desk, so when I answered it to a voice saying "Hey sexy" I was totally creeped out. We left shortly thereafter.

Well, it can be argued that breasts were evolved as sexual objects, since our closest relatives, such as chimps and bonobos can nurse just fine without having such "protruding" breasts. I've heard it suggested that humans evolved breasts when they started coupling face-to-face, since they can kind of be said to look like the buttocks, keeping males interested.
So, using that logic, it's a bit of an instinctual association with sex; though some cultures are okay with that. From what I can tell, those cultures seem a bit more comfortable with sex as a natural process too...
just my off-topic 2 cents.

That makes sense to me.

What would sex be other than a natural process? Or are you talking about how we've commercialized sex?

There is apparently a petition to get Facebook to allow a woman to show pictures from her mastectomy. I'm all for support groups, but seriously...is FB the best place for this? Why are folks protesting so much?

I'm confused. What would be the problem? Isn't her breast gone? Are there before pictures that she wants to post? Lemme go read this...

Yes, it's gone. The photo showed her topless (covering her remaining breast) exposing the scars. I think Facebook is trying to cover its ass. I still don't get why people are making a big deal out of this, though. There are plenty of other places people can go to for support.

I'm the biggest boobie advocate there is (I nursed my little lady exclusively til she was 13 months! She never, ever drank formula or from a bottle), but I would NEVER put a picture that was clear enough to show my breast while nursing on a social networking site like that. I am positive that there are pictures of me breastfeeding, though I'm not certain if they're on FB, but her head is blocking any boobage. And I've nursed everywhere you can think of, from restaurants to airplanes, but again, not with my exposed breast flopping in the breeze.

minDyG - my sentiments exactly. i'm breastfeeding my 5 1/2 month old son and plan to until 12 or 13 months. sometimes he's hungry when we're out, but that's what they invented the little nursing "capes" for. i know it can be a little more effort, but i get weirded out by the moms who just whip out a tit in public.

i thought i didn't have an opinion on the issue, until i was at work today (in a library) and this lady started breastfeeding while in here. I was suprised, then grossed out, then checked myself, then was o.k.
i feel bad b/c my FIRST instinct was to freak out. However i did not ask her to leave, or move, or go to a bathroom. She was fine - I was being silly. So I let her have a moment and all was well.
