I know and feel your pain. I too am a redhead and one time in 7th grade I went up on the roof of my house and put baby oil all over my body in the middle of August in south Texas-HELLO WTF was I thinking??? Needless to say I spent 1 week in bed, I am sure I had 1st and 2nd degree burns and was in soooo much pain. My mother would make me oatmeal baths and this helped a great deal. Also cold washclothes or icepacks helped with the burning sensation. Aloe Vera is your friend!! Good Luck and I hope you feel better.
