It depends on the sorority ... some allow collegiates to write recs and some don't. All you can do it ask. If a collegiate is not allowed to write, she should be able to put you touch with someone who could.

The vast majority of women at FIU do not have recs. Maybe a few of the legacies and the girls that some alums really need their sisters to pay attention to. It would help if you could get them, but even if you don't, you still have a good chance of placing with a chapter you will enjoy AS LONG AS YOU KEEP AN OPEN MIND. I can not stress how important it is for you not to get stuck on some of the chapters. I'm just being honest. A lot of girls at FIU do this and then drop out when they start cutting.

We just added a new chapter and this is the first year that they will be participating in recruitment with us. I can not say how this will affect the groups except that quota should be smaller.

Open your eyes and really appreciate each chapter. Look at the events they do, look at the costs and what you can afford to pay (if you have money issues get a job now!), look at the philanthropy activities they actually throw as opposed to just what the philanthropy is, look at the sisters, if you don't look like you could fit in there don't count yourself out automatically, but note that.

GO TO THE PC EVENTS! SIGN UP FOR RECRUITMENT ASAP don't wait until later this summer. Get to know the Rho Gammas (or better yet, the Pi Chis). Many of the current Pi Chis were Rho Gammas last year and are really awesome people. Ask them questions, get educated. Visit the chapter websites throughout the summer (some are still needing to change their info) and look for things about each group that interest and disinterest you. Do not let groups' reputations sway you because I can see the beginning of changes occuring and believe things will be different with time.

Figure how much time you are willing to dedicate to sorority life now, honestly we have a lot of girl go MIA because they didn't realize there would be meetings and obligations. They are traditional South Florida girls who are not used to having to devote time or whose (usually) hispanic families do not always support or understand sorority life and activities and need them home for dinner every day. Do not be the type that gets to initiation and disappears b/c she can't "take it" anymore. If this sounds like you or your family, introduce the idea now so that if you do get a bid you will be able to bond and enjoy your sisterhood.

I am just being really up front with you because I've seen it all. If you any more questions, feel free to pm me.

Ok, reading this I had a question....I thought Rho Gammas and Pi Chis were the same thing=recruitment leaders-just with different names?

Is it not the same at FIU?

I was a Pi Chi, this is the name for someone who is on the Panhellenic Council.

Rho Gammas are Recruitment Guides that are supervised by the VPMR.
