John Mayer's Kappa Song?

so I just followed that link and I love that song! Just out of curiosity, does anyone know why exactly John Mayer is singing about how fabulous Kappas are (other than the obvious reasons, of course)?

I don't know this for sure, but I heard it was at a school where there was some sort of contest between the NPC groups. The winning group got a song from John Mayer about them. Pretty sweet deal...
