Then again, this is what you just posted under the recruitment ideas thread http://greekchat.com/gcforums/showthread.php?t=104404 over in the Sorority Recruitment forum. Doesn't look much like the rush you're talking about here. Curiouser and curiouser.

Yeah I don't know what Panhellenic would condone manicures and ACTUAL (not mocktail-type) margaritas for a recruitment event.

Not outright saying your story is phony, but this is odd.

Added to the fact that I can't find any "huge university with one of the most competitive Greek systems around" that has 14 chapters that participate in formal recruitment (or have even in the last several years.) Although mine has 14, several of the things she has stated do not add up to it being UT either. Something isn't right here. I'm just sayin'.

I would agree that it is odd, but we did strictly adhere to the 21+ rule. I don't even know how alcohol even came about as a subject for debate, because at all of my friend's schools, it is foreign idea that alcohol be served to minors. All I know is that a sorority petitioned for it to happen a few years ago, and after much negotiating they did pass something that allowed 21 year olds to drink at recruitment.

Um, ok. This makes zero sense to me.

There is an NPC Unanimous Agreement against allowing alcohol in recruitment events, minors or otherwise.

I don't see how your school isn't following this (as these agreements trump any campus "petitions"), unless it is a council full of 14 locals, which I doubt.

This is just really odd to me.

Word. There's no way this could possibly happen. End of story.

Oh, wow, I didn't know that, about the unanimous agreement. We are not all local sororities, so maybe I was just mistaken about the alcohol petition, or maybe we didn't have the school's approval. This does seem odd, now that I think about it. But I can be a bit naive sometimes, so I wouldn't put it past me. LOL As I came to realize throughout my first semester as an active, some of the older sisters could be quite misleading, and things could get very...political, for lack of a better word. There are a few times when that I recall when an older sister who was officer would really say anything to get the younger sisters to stop inquiring - there were alot of things that were very hush hush, so I wouldn't put it past a few of the senior officers to make up a story to get something to fly. I'm not saying I think that is an acceptable behavior, but, like I said, I was very naive and sometimes didn't bother to question as often as I should.

I hope that clears everything up!

Eaglesbaby did say that one of the chapters was a local. That makes 13 NPCs plus one. I thought it was UT also but for that fact. Maybe the local isn't as stringent about following rules. Please don't let us scare you off, Eaglesbaby. Just keep telling your very good story.

Not trying to be "scary"--just pointing out a rule. She says there are no locals at her school, therefore, the Unan. Agreement stands. Which is why I said it was odd that they were serving alcohol. It's a direct violation of that rule.
