I hadn't thought about a new group of Others. When Ilana asked, "What lies in the shadow of the statue?", I thought she might be part of a new Widmore team.
Regarding the Egyptian theme, they've been giving us Egyptian hints all along (the first one I remember was when the clock in the hatch reached zero, and the numbers were then replaced with hieroglyphs). One of the most recent Egyptian references was the ankh necklace Amy kept from her first husband, Paul. The statue appears to be holding an ankh in each hand.
