The reason I said "working up the nerve" is that I'm generally a reader that gets really into the story, and Meyers does a really good job of making the reader feel what the character feels - so that book really was heartbreaking to me. At least the movie is over in one 2-hour shot (instead of being depressed for 300 pages), and as people have said, the first 3/4 of the book will probably take 30 min and the rest of the movie will take place with them chasing down Edward and in Italy.

I think she's probably right. I read this book first since it was the only one available in the airport bookstore. I LOVE Jacob because of this book and never really cared that much for Edward. Reading it without the info from Book 1 really helps, but maybe reading it after knowing that everythng works out for Bella and Edward will work too.
