I saw it at the midnight premiere- I wanted to see it before, and why turn down the premiere? It was the calmest premiere I've ever been to though...
My thoughts:
I knew uber-basic plot going in, but I did know I liked movies in this vein (dark, psychological superheros). It didn't disappoint in that respect.
There was some stuff I felt could have been cut- it made the movie drag, IMHO.
Overall, a very good movie. Maybe not "great", but still pretty fabulous.

Not surprised.
Watchmen" dropped a big 67% from its opening domestic grosses to register $18.1 million in second place. Universal's Rogue-produced horror pic "The Last House on the Left" bowed in third place with $14.7 million, while Fox Atomic's youth comedy "Miss March" stumbled into theaters with just $2.4 million in 10th place.

There was some part of the movie that they could've take out. The love making part, it was just dumb. Felt like there was no chemistry between them. Even if they just implied they made love, it would've been better and would not drag the movie down

I'm still pissed that the squid was taken out. Although I can understand why they took it out.

On the other had, I can understand why they didn't go with the squid. The average moviegoer would think it was dumb to see a dead squid in manhattan. Hehe
My favorite line in the whole thing have always been:
Do you seriously think I'd explain my master-stroke if there remained the slightest chance of you affecting its outcome? I did it thirty-five minutes ago.

I will wait a bit before I debate the point of that with you because that is the endgame of the movie and the thing we should wait til last to spoil is the ending...

I think we should start another thread, cause what Moore wanted to do is a whole other thread. Hahaha.
I swear, I've read the series more then 4 times, and I always get something new with that book. Moore is a genius

i really really really could have done WITHOUT the blue twig and berries swinging around.
but other than that, the movie was good. relatively close to the comic. moreso than most adaptations.

Apparently, after talking with friends, my opinion is totally different than theirs, but I thought this movie was beyond HORRIBLE!
I watched with my mom and brother, and my mom was the only one who read the book. She liked the book, but all 3 of us wanted the 3-hours back.
Why did they feel the need to make John anatomically correct instead of just ambiguous, and the sex scene in "Archie" was unnecessary.
Horrible, horrible, horrible.

That's the thing, I thought it was too sexy and too gory. Live-in said it was because the director does movies that are sexy and gory - I've never seen 300 or Sin City.

I watched the movie last night for the first time on DVD and although I regret not seeing it on the big screen (many of the shots were just beautiful) I am also glad that I didn't spend three hours of my life actually sitting in a theater watching it.
The film is probably too painstakingly close to the graphic novel. I read perhaps two thirds of the book prior to seeing the film, but it was so dense that I figured I would just skip it and watch the movie.
I understand that the ending is different. I need to read the book. However, I was satisfied with the ending. Annoyed by it, yes, and not entirely pleased, but not surprised.
If epchick reads this, Dr. Manhattan was anatomically correct in the book as well. I felt the blue peen was tastefully done.
The sex scene in the ship was corny.
I didn't miss the comic within the movie. I didn't really "get it" in the graphic novel, so I was fine with it being a separate DVD (which I will watch at some point).
The acting was only so-so -- Rorschach was the best character and actor by far. However, I felt that almost everyone was terribly miscast and they were far younger than intended in the source material.
I guess it was a strong C+ film.

The ending is not drastically different. I don't want to give too much away, but the same thing occurs just through a different method and for a similar reason for the same results.
I think it was easier to end it the way they did in the film because it wasn't introducing extra concepts in the very end.
I missed the newsstand having the prominence that it did, but I also was grateful it was left out. You have no idea how bad it is to have the sound go out at the end of a film that you've A) waited almost three years to see and B) sat through 3 hours of already. It was the pits.
We used the free tickets the movie theather provided to see Madea goes to Jail and then snuck in to watch the tail-end all over again after that!

I watched the DVD. I don't know how I felt about it. I know that I hated the ending.

Yes! He was so darn sexy!
Actually...I found all 4 of the male characters (not the guy with the glasses) to be HOT.
I tripped when bluedude cloned himself to make love to her while he was doing work.
