Rushing Junior year?

Hey everyone, I'm new here and had a few questions,

I'm a Senior in HS and have decided to go to Community College for a year or two due to financial reasons. After this I am hoping to transfer to a Big Ten schools (specifically Illinois, Wisconsin, and Purdue) and would be very interested in joining a fraternity. Would being a Junior effect my chances or getting into a fraternity? How common is it for Juniors to rush? Thanks.

And it would depend on the type of organization you're pursuing.

Juniors are just as common as freshmen when it comes to rushing. I pledge in my junior year at CSU after i graduated from a community college. it shouldn't affect your decision to rush.

I guess it really depends on where you go. But it can't hurt to check it out.

I was 22 and in my 5th year of college when I joined. Two of our current pledges are 21 and 24 respectively. Granted my school's Greek system is pretty small and the average age of students is 27 or 28, so we get a lot of older students in general

I'd say definitely go for it.

Most fraternities gladly accept anyone who is genuine and trying to join. Don't let the fact that you are an upperclassman affect your behavior, and most of the time they won't let it affect their behavior either.

My big question though. If you are going to a community college for financial reasons, then you should seriously look at the cost of Fraternities at the school you are looking to get into

I don't go to a big school, so my dues are only $300 a semester. I hear that at big schools, fraternities can cost upward of a few thousand a semester

It's definitely worth the price, but only if you can afford it

Obviously, being a girl I wouldn't know for sure... lol...but I feel like this is the same for Illinois. I haven't heard TOO many stories about guys rushing as upperclassmen (I feel like guys make up their minds so much sooner than girls do about whether or not to go Greek) but I'm sure it happens!

I do know that a junior pledged my boyfriend's fraternity last fall. I'm pretty sure the reason he didn't pledge sooner was because he was on the track and field team his first two years. He actually may be on the team still, I'm not completely sure.

My cousin got a bid to a "popular" chapter here as a sophomore. I know, not the same, but it's the only other first hand example I could think of...
