He's a snooze. And they need to stop patronizing him. It's fine to acknowledge that he has faced challenges, but not every time he performs.
I think he's terribly boring and has no personality. His music isn't "relevant". Even less personality than Clay Aiken (and I really hated Clay when he was on the show). To be even a little more catty - he jaw is really weird, just like his dad's, which looks even scarier.
