Ok, I know I'm gonna get some crap for this because it's such an old thread, but hey, I didn't bump it!
I don't understand how people can encourage someone to take a name that's already in use even if it's not close to their school. Yeah, it isn't that likely that they'll meet another KGD or whatever, but I'd rather pick a new name that sounds like an NPC, NIC, etc than have the exact same name as someone else. I know someone posted here how many Greek letter combinations you could make. Yeah, they aren't all pretty sounding but...still!
Maybe I'm just sensitive cause we have a Kappa Gamma Delta chapter here (the pre-med sorority).
