I can watch Obama and laugh at his speech style and how it seems so played to me at times, but Jindal's funny wore off way too quickly for me.

LOL @ kick ass! Yeah I know. Our party is the best party.

Im willing to bet MC Stee-Lo was behind this one. I dont understand the new GOP leadership's idea that taking what is successful for others and immitating it will make the GOP successful. Epic Fail!

At many points while watching Jindal emulate Obama I realized that his attempt at Obama's educated northerner crossed with southern preacher/activist speech style is why he sounded like a Pre-K teacher. Then many of his comments seemed to me like him saying "We need to do what President Obama says we need to do, but do it our way puh-leeze!" The whole thing appeared...just desperate.
That's not how I saw it at all - but then again, like Kevin, I'm in Jindal's party (and a big fan of his, at that), so assign any biases you wish to my interpretation. I agree with what he was saying, I just wish the delivery was better.

Also, Jindal wasn't "attempting" to be "educated." The guy is educated and pretty darn smart, which is a key distinction from "attempting" to appear educated.

I really hope the party isn't looking for its "Obama." There are a lot of us who, if we wanted Obama, we would have voted for him in this election. What we want is a smart conservative who's not going to tax and spend.

@ underlined
Maybe if the delivery was better I'd be able to get a better feel for where the GOP is trying to go right now.

@ bolded
Did you understand what I said?

@ Purple
I do too. I just think they are. Especially with Mike Steele at the helm.

Ditto here to everything. I just think he was over-coached. I first remember seeing/hearing him last year during the Presidential primary season. I was so impressed with the fact that he answered every single question thrown at him with little to no spin or diversion. He always seemed to say exactly what he meant and very eloquently.

Perhaps he is just better suited to unrehearsed discussion rather than practiced, teleprompter speeches. Opposite - in my opinion - of President Obama's style.

My personal beliefs on government are much more in line with Jindal's - the less government intervention into the market, the better. Americans, by and large, should be able to take care of themselves.

I think they are all overcoached.

The Dems just seem to hide it better than the Repubs. The way-too-obvious Palin coaching sessions were hilarious.

I understood what he was saying but felt like I was watching an infomercial for children. I kept waiting for him to pull out a Snuggie or talk about stranger-danger.

That being said, I understood what he was saying but I don't see why it was necessary to do it in that format. I don't think I've ever seen a speech by a President where immediately after they have an official response speech from the other party (I'm not talking about reactions on CNN/Fox/etc). It all seemed very odd to me.

They do it every year after the State of the Union address.

Jindal's done great things. Great platforms. So what if he isn't very interesting when you listen to him. All that matters is that you properly convey your views, stances, and intentions, Mr. Jindal has done that, other than that, its all about how you perform your job, and he's done a pretty good job at it.

I think it's weird because it's not like he's a former senator or anything.

I was starstruck by Condoleezza Rice when I met her but I was just a lowly Public and International Affairs student, lol.

Right. I mentioned that a few posts earlier. But, the speech to a joint session of Congress (which can only be at Congress's invitation) by a new president is essentially a State of the Union equivalent. For all intents and purposes, it is treated like a State of the Union, even if it isn't called one. (Prior to 1989, it was called a State of the Union Address.)

Eh y'all don't hate the playa, hate the game... President Obama just served up major game to us AND stepped up the game showing up the Congressional Tweeple who only type Tweets vs. doing Up-Downs... LOL...

I mean, after spending $1 Gajillion of my money, whatever amount of prime time is needed, I would like to hear an explanation, hayle, I think I'm owed since my taxes are paying for it. I'd rather hear an explanation, than about some bank fool who gets a stim. package and spent it on some $90K desk or whatever--then asking again!!!

I would imagine the autograph of the first African American President is going to be very valuable someday. I don't blame them for getting him to autograph it. Autographs are very collectible, especially for Presidents and his Presidency has historical significance beyond most. I would expect the same if a woman is elected President. You leave something like that to your heirs and you leave something of value. Don't you guys watch Antique Roadshow?
