tld221, when you say "everyone near me" do you mean geographically or metaphorically (i.e. the people you're close with)? If it's the former, have you tried browsing wefollow.com? They list people on Twitter based on various categories, including location.

I'm guess geographically - I think Twitter gives a list of tweets based on where youre located. so i get folks who are probably standing in front of the building, or the corner store, or what have you. and their average age is probably 16, which means their usernames and posts are fodder for the "bad grammar" thread.
i'll try wefollow.com. i only am followng a few former co-workers-turned friends and random celebrities (and theyre not celebrities, its like news outlets and authors).

I haven't been on it as much as I used to, but that's more a result of increased workload at the job.
Still like checking in from time to time, though.

Hi everyone ,
This is Ian. I am professionally an architect. At present, I am staying in New-York currently. I find forum discussion, a very interesting stuff to do. I used to hang out with these forums during my spare time. Many topics have got a healthy discussion over here. I think it would be most enjoyable while doing discussions in this forums. And pleased to meet all the other members of this site.

Yes I do have my account in it.

A friend passed this on: http://twitter.com/Shitmydadsays. Basically, this 30 year old guy lives with his parents and his dad says some messed up stuff. The son tweets the random stuff his dad says. It's pretty funny, but vulgar.
"You sure do like to tailgate people... Right, because it's real important you show up to the nothing you have to do on time."

I, too, caved and started tweeting again:
http://twitter.com/iWroteLazarus
It's also in my sig.
I truly don't "like" it, but it's necessary for me professionally. I've been de-following people lately, though. I really was only using it to subscribe to my favorite sites/celebs, because RSS feeds weren't doing what I needed and facebook fan page statuses sink to the bottom of my feed too quickly.
