I don't think it was wrong of you to ask her about it, because you were just looking out for your sorority and your sisters. I have some of my older sister's sorority tshirts from when she was a Chi O at Western KY, but she would never give me her letters.
now she can, since i'm a Chi O at Univ of South Alabama. There are alot of people who transfer and don't affiliate, but you can always politely ask when your gut instinct tells you to ask, because like someone said earlier.. if that person does things in your letter shirt (like drink or something) it could reflect badly on your sorority.
