lsu2011-
Go through recruitment with an open heart and mind and have fun! I would just be yourself and act interested. Good luck!

Well after a whirlwind week, my twin sister is a Pi Beta Phi at her college. She is very happy and I am happy for her. I think this will give me the confidence to go through this process fearlessly and with an open heart and mind.

Also, my twin sister is rushing at Butler University this Spring and my parents wanted us to Rush in the same semester.
I am also nervous because I am multi-racial and I do not look like the majority of sorority girls at LSU. I have looked at all the chapter's national websites and see all the pictures of members full of diversity, which has given me hope, but then I look at my own campus and do not necessarily see the commitment to diversity manifested on my own campus.
I am confident that I meet, if not exceed, all of the requirements for rush, have been pro-active in my rec process, and have compiled a current resume but I am still very nervous.
Insight and/or words of encouragement are greatly appreciated!

Sounds like you're going to do fine. I am in the same catagory with you as far as the ethnicity issue. Been there and done that and it's not an issue if you don't let be one for you. But it sounds like you should do fine, so good luck.

Make sure and tell the Pi Phi's at LSU that your twin sister is a new Pi Phi. I wouldn't go on about it at other houses, though...not a good idea!

I just wanted to add in here (sort of as a disclaimer) that having a sister who is a Pi Phi new member doesn't guarantee a bid there (that's assuming that Pi Phi is participating in any spring recruitment).

I completely agree, but it won't hurt you to have them know of your special tie to their organization. I doubt that Pi Phi considers sisters of New Members as legacies, so you doubtfully will qualify for any special considerations given to legacies. Good luck!

I am just happy my sister has been accepted into the sorority she really liked and that ethnicity wasn't an issue. It was at other houses apparently. I do not think that Pi Phi is doing Spring Rush this year and would certainly be tactful if they were or were not. But at the heart of it I am just so pleased that she is so happy and feels like she is where she belongs, and I hope that I can find where I feel comfortable and feel like I belong.

LSU that's the most important thing about being within a sorority. You have to be comfortable with where you are and tends to begin with being comfortable about being who you are. Being true to yourself and within yourself can be the biggest challenge when being in college to begin with. Therefore, when you are finding that you want to be a part of an organization, if you haven't found out who you are or what you are about, then becoming a part of an organization isn't really going to matter because confusion will still be a part of your life. As long as you know who you are, your comfort level will rise and others will see this comfort level with you and that will help in propelling to have an organization want you as a member.

Well it is 5 days until Bid day and the nervousness is continuing. I am enjoying the laid-back atmosphere of Spring Rush but it is still overwhelming at times because it feels very competitive at times. There are three sororities participating and I have been to each house once. I like them all for different reasons.
The thing that worries me is that no one knows how many events each sorority is having or when they are exactly so I can't tell if I haven't been asked back by some of them for whatever reason or if some of the houses only had one or two events. I am also under the impression that it may not be necessary to attend all the events to receive a bid.
In any case I will know on Thursday and I feel like there isn't a "losing" scenario to participating in this process.

Best of luck to all of the LSU spring PNMs.
Think of it this way, whether you get a bid or not, you got a chance to meet people.

Oh honey, I'm so sorry that you didn't get a bid LSU. I am so sorry. I hope things will turn around for you. Always know this, that whenever God closes one door, He opens up another.

You're very welcome.
Enjoy your time at LSU, it's a great school and I'm sure there are many things to do there.
