Maybe I am wrong... But, that's what FoxNews said when they covered them.

They probably misunderstood the hospital. It is standard practice to name multiples by consecutive letters of the alphabet until they are named.

Did anyone see this? The mother of the octuplets already has six kids, according to neighbors. She has four older brothers, and two sisters. This includes a set of twins.

Am I not seeing something here or is there no mention of a father?

The mother of 14 children lives in a house with her parents and her 6 older children and is fairly young.

W.T.F?

Yeah, I read that. What's going on there?

In vitro fertilization.

They were talking about this on The View this morning and the issue of ethics.
Was it in vitro, or just Clomid? Often times, the high-order multiples will be a result of high doses of Clomid because the parents can't afford to do in vitro. In vitro can be really expensive, and not all insurance carriers cover it. Clomid, on the other hand, is much cheaper and usually is covered by insurance. Most doctors won't implant more than two or three embryos in vitro just because of how difficult it is to carry anywhere near full-term.

Also, from what I understand, Clomid is the first line of defense when dealing with infertility, but in normal doses, it only causes an extra one or two eggs to come out...the crazy doses that these women are taking would cause abnormal hyperstimulation of the ovaries.

On The View, they acted certain that it was in vitro. But that's neither here nor there.

Clomid stimulates ovarian activity. In normal doses, it can treat PCOS and other conditions where ovulation has been interrupted.

The women on The View can all be a little crazy, and I'm not surprised they didn't know the nuances.

I just think all the hostility I'm seeing around the internet directed toward the mother is unfair. If she did use fertility drugs, I think the questions need to be directed to the medical professionals who said "This woman with 6 kids needs fertility drugs/IVF/IUI" etc.

If this octuplet mom didn't use any fertility methods, she's getting a hell of a lot of flack for no reason.
She's a fucking idiot for wanting to bring yet another child in this world when she already has 6 that she apparently can't care for on her own... You live with mom and dad and your SIX kids and you feel the need to have MORE???

I'll direct every bit of my anger to her. She has now 8 more kids to bring into a crowded home. People can choose to have sex. They can choose to prevent pregnancy if they so desire. She seems to be dependent enough already needing help to raise the kids she has.

People kill me.

No, but you can buy it off of the Internet. You can go to an unscrupulous doctor and tell them you're suffering from PCOS, and the doctor can write you a prescription, which you take all at once. You can buy it from a friend who was prescribed it. I read somewhere that Clomid is one of the most popular non-painkillers on the black market. Like I said before, some insurers cover it, others don't; it's easy to see how people who want a kid and who can't afford in vitro would take this route.

Usually someone with PCOS has been dx by a dr and it's been a known condition for years. In getting pregnant, usually a doctor for a woman with PCOS tries to do an egg freezing process first.
The PCOS has to be a documented case first, I know b/c I have it.

That's why I said "unscrupulous doctor." There are physicians out there that will prescribe anything to anyone.

I think a lot of people are jumping to a lot of conclusions. I find a few things troubling that nobody else has mentioned:
1) The family asked for anonymity but the press found the house where they live anyway.
2) They interview one guy who lives on the street who gives them information and they immediately accept it as fact. What's to say this guy isn't an attention whore who wants his 15 minutes of fame "a la Joe the Plumber" by saying stuff on the news.
3) Whose to say this isn't the home of the octuplet's parents and she is either a) allowing them to live with her for some reason or b) they aren't staying there with the six kids because the mother is in the hospital and just had octuplets! Almost everybody I know had the grandparents come when they had ONE baby. My mom slept over with my daughter at our house when I was in the hospital having my son. This isn't outrageous or unusual.

Bottom line: If a woman got pregnant with 8 children and through selective abortion, had only two or three, people would be up in arms about that too.
