Hi CP2000 ...
I spent 10 days in Texas in February 2000 visiting 2 AGD chapters there in Dallas & Corpus Christi ... it was definitely a lot different than Vancouver, but it was also LOTS of fun!!
BTW - what type of visa / work are you thinking about getting into down there?? the reason I ask is that I worked in NYC for 3 months in 2000 & had a HECK of a time securing a visa. Unless you are a nurse, doctor, teacher or technology guru - working visas are VERY hard to get for us Canadians ... take it from someone whose friend got turned away at the border & had to give up a VERY lucrative job in Dallas because of visa complications.
Please do be sure to keep us posted ... I too am looking to move down south, though my focus is more on the midwest or deep south at this point.
