He sounds like he has the type of box that is a generic box that doesn't allow for anythign BUT broadcasting cable and no way to control the settings...

Ree-xi - it's a common issue that boxes resets happen believe it or not as all channels and all shows aren't broadcasting in 720p or 1080i/p as quiet as kept, DTV at the max right now can ONLY broadcast at 1080i
Mostly it resets based on the channell your TV is on. I would recommend that you call your cable provider and see if they have an updated firmware or an updated box they can replace for you.

Do you all also have HD service and an HDTV?

We have an HDTV but not HD service, because Comcast sucks so badly that we refuse to pay more for HD if we can't get cable to work (and yes, on our old TV it didn't work well either).

Ours also cuts in and out as it pleases. It's so fun to be in a dramatic part of a TV show and have the screen just go black.

Yeah, we have all the above. Hubby is a software/hardware/computer/all things technical geek. The channel is set to the one channel for cable, so the issue is with the box. There isn't a newer box, it's a bug in UVERSE settings.
