I have to say I'm with Facebook on this one. If Facebook has said that exposed nipples are a no-go, then that's their prerogative. A nipple is a nipple, whether someone's sucking on it or not.

PS to OTW: That photo is NASTY!

I'm with Facebook as well. I'm not really sure why anyone would want to post those types of pictures to begin with. It's one thing to show a cute pic of mom with baby feeding. It's altogether different when it's mom's leaky nip.

Agreed.

As far as other public places, I don't really have an issue with women nursing in public as long as they're doing so discretely. Most women I know who have kids carry blankets with them so they can nurse while not exposing themselves.

Most I know do too. But I've worked in kids retail a long time and seen more boobs than i care to think about. I will never forget this one lady who wanted to feed her toddler. I have issues with 3-year olds breastfeeding but whatever. She pulled down cutouts in her shirt then opened both cutouts in her bra so both boobs were exposed. I guess he gets to pick which one? Since he was running around the store at the time she was trying to catch him so he could have lunch. Bless his heart, he kept screaming "But I want Chickfila". So she's running around the store trying to catch him with both boobs exposed and then when she catches him she comes back to the register to pay with a kid screaming for Chickfila under her arm and both boobs exposed. How I took her credit card and packaged her purchase I will never know.

Dude, if the kid's old enough to ask for Chick-fil-A, then he doesn't need your tits anymore.

That's always been my point but I don't have any kids. I tend to think once they get teeth it's time to move them off the teet. It's past time once they can ask for it.

Point. Set. Match.

This is the only thing that should matter. While it does bring up some good questions (e.g., Is it disrespecting surrounding people to BF without cover?), the misc. questions shouldn't be all over the news. Keep it to the main issue and leave it alone.

Outside of media attention: What are these women thinking? I looked at the group sort of on the fence about it--A women BFing her kid isn't that bad, but why on FB? Then the page loaded--over 3,000 pictures of women breastfeeding. What on earth would possess women to put picture after picture of themselves doing this with their babies on Facebook? It seems so personal (aside from your naked boob) to bond with your baby like that...do 140,000,000+ people really need to see? And some of those pictures were disturbing, I agree. Did anyone see the two girls playing "pretend feeding?" People commented on how cute it was, but it seemed way too much like child pornography. I don't see what's cute about an 8yo hiking her shirt all the way up so that a 6yo could "suck" on her nipple and then goold old Mom putting it on the Internet.

Seriously! Most of the women I know who breastfeed don't WANT people to see their boobies when doing it, whether it's in a restaurant or elsewhere. They DEFINITELY don't want their boobies on the internet.

I keep hearing Joe Francis over and over saying "It's natural, it's where babies feed!"

There are moms who, like me, breastfeed, and it's no big deal. Then, there is the breastfeeding CULT who make it the end all and be all of motherhood.

I can't stand women who make other women feel bad because they may be unable to phycially (or for other reasons) breast feed, financially unable to stay home (and make completely organic food), and get hell for using a disposable diaper instead of sewing their own.

Women who bring down other women like that are just miserable all around. if I am ever a mother I hope I never become that way, or am the victim or some self-righteous militant freak who is probably so worried about their kid that the kid ends up with all kinds of problems because of what they think is right and better than everyone else.

I've told the story elsewhere - when I was about a month away from delivering baby #2 I had a breast cancer scare. My oncologist and I came up with a plan - I'd breastfeed for 6 weeks, then wait another 6 before doing my testing. There was a La Leche League consultant who was a neighbor who was HORRIFIED that I would stop at 6 weeks. Much better, apparently, to have a dead mother who breastfed than a living one who fed her baby formula. That's nuts.

eta - The baby, now 16, and I are both just fine.

Breastfeeding 6 year old child to "comfort him":

http://http://abcnews.go.com/Health/...6551439&page=1

Lady, your 6 year old needs to develop self-comforting skills of his own that don't involve your boobie.
