That is a lot of money to spend! But a good pick-up. I hope this turns out to be a smart investment.

I would have rather seen them sign Lowe and Burnett/Sheets, and make Texeira their number one priority. The guy can hit, he's young, and he would have instantly become their best infield defender.

I can't sit here and say I'm upset with the signing, as Sabathia's one of the best pitchers in baseball, I just wish they had gone with Texiera instead. It's been a bit of a mixed offseason, with some good (the trade for Swisher) and some not-so-good (not offering arbitration to Pettitte or Abreu).

ETA: Just re-read this and it seemed a bit pessimistic. Don't get me wrong - I'm glad that they used the money on the best pitcher on the market, and in isolation it's a great move. But, if it means they don't try for Texeira, then I'm less positive on it.

Isn't this a bit redundant?

I knew it wouldn't last long, but I loved having him as a Brewer.

Yep, there are definitely Yankees fans who should realize that A-Rod is a great player, and it annoys me as a Yankees fan that people still give him a hard time. Unfortunately, there are fans everywhere (New York, Boston, Philly, etc.) who don't reflect well on their team's fan bases.

Absolutely - better than the Sidney Ponson face, right?

The television network (YES network) generates a ton of revenue; I believe it's the top or one of the top regional based sports networks in the country. They also get big attendance, they have a licensing deal with Adidas, and they've made a bunch of other agreements (including, I think, and agreement with a Japanese newspaper soon after they signed Hideki Matsui).
