Thanks, Sheetcake, for making an appearance on the thread! Maybe this will cause others to come on and share their stories!

The "fun" sockpuppets have stories that won't be told to the general public of GC. They prefer to stay hidden in the backdrop of inside jokes. In other words, you'll never be able to know the stories behind them. Just enjoy the cheer they spread across GC.
I am going to respectfully disagree with Tippiechick. Even though some of us were not part of the original inside jokes, we want to be able to laugh when they are mentioned and partake of the "cheer of GC" as well.

As much as I'd like to know the story behind Sheetcake, not knowing it doesn't prevent me from laughing whenever (s)he spreads cheer across GC. (And might I add that the recent nosy cake post - I don't remember which thread it's in - is among my all-time favorite Sheetcake posts.)

OK, let me make this easier to understand for you -- those who know the stories/jokes/identities ARE NOT GOING TO TELL YOU. We don't care how much you want to know about them.

I am now going to entertain you with a song from the hot Tim McGraw:
*singing in cabaret style*

Today I'm gonna keep on walking
I'm gonna hold my head up high
I'm gonna leave it all behind
Today I'm gonna stand out in the rain
Let it wash it all away Yeah wash it all away
I'm gonna let it go Oh yeah
I'm gonna let it go Oh yeah

*puts down microphone*

If you really want to know about "inside jokes", some of them can be unearthed through dilligent research. Some can't - the threads are history.

Speaking from experience - even if you are clued into some inside info., it's not the same as being "there" . "You had to be there" is the phrase that springs to mind. I know, I know, we missed a great deal by not being here earlier!

I agree with this. Some may recall how SHEETCAKE was born. SHEETCAKE started out as an inside joke, but then it transformed into something even bigger than the reason why it was started in the first place. To reveal its origins would damage SHEETCAKE's integrity, IMO.

And even if you were "here" earlier, you might not understand. I've been around the site for 8 years, and there are still some inside jokes that I don't get. Even if those things were explained now, they might not be as funny, or might not mean as much if you weren't in on the original joke.

AND Sheetcake needs no backstory to be enjoyed. Sheetcake is Sheetcake - and sufficient in his/her cakey goodness.

They don't really make "You're welcome" cakes, so I hope this will do.

You know what else damages my integrity? Sorry ass so-and-sos running to be the first to eat me. I'm a freaking sheetcake, there's enough to go around!

You know how when you get to be friends with 2 people who've known each other forever and you ask them why they laugh uncontrollably every time Ricky Martin sings and they tell you and you don't understand why it's funny at all and you just end up feeling left out?

This would be like that. Seriously, let it go and let this thread die.

I agree. I assume the funniest and longest-standing sockpuppets are among the veteran (and funny) GCers; but I prefer to believe they're really benevolent, mythical figures that grace our presence when we are most in need of humor and perspective. Kind of like the GC gods, if you will. Revealing them would be like learning there's no Santa Claus all over again and I just. don't. think. I. could. handle. it.
