I think private transportation of any reasonable sort is an accepted perk of political office. The selling of a political office, while probably more common than expected, is not.

Besides, what other type of transportation does one take from Alaska, a kayak? I can remember seeing more than one picture of a private jet used by a former senator from Illinois.

Well, they do have commercial flights, too. Oh, and then there's that thing called a car...

Driving, from Alaska to DC? Seriously? Flying would actually be cheaper. How about the politicos from Hawaii? Should they be driving, too? Or maybe a boat to mainland, and then driving?

I'm going to stand by my statement that most people involved in politics would consider private transportation part of the perks of the job.
